Assessment Interview
The Assessment Interview is the first contact you will have with me
and will give us a chance to meet and learn about each other. The
interview usually opens with you letting me know just what it is that
you feel is problematic. I will attempt to clarify the issue(s) by asking
a few questions that are intended to help get a better idea from a
coach’s point of view. Having gotten an impression of what we call
the Presenting Problem, I will engage a prospective client in a
discussion of his/her past history -
both of the symptoms that were just discussed and of his or her family, social
and employment life. This will help the interviewer to place the symptoms
into the context of the client's life in order to get a better perspective.

Usually, there are some problematic aspects of the prospective client's early
family so I will also attempt to achieve an impression of how it was
experienced by you. If possible, I may point out a theme or two that seems to
have had a lot of staying-power or I may point out a connection that I think
you the client might not have made by him/herself. This, in fact, is the meat
and potatoes, so to speak, of the coaching/psychotherapy experience.

Near the end of the session I will provide some feedback on what appears to
be the problem and make some recommendations. I cannot and do not take
all clients; this is due to the availability of time, it’s all about balance. In
some cases it may be decided with one interview weather or not we will be
working together, however in some cases it may take two. In ether case the
interview is free.

In all cases, I will attempt to arrange a referral to a therapist or coach who is
experienced in the area you need to work.
